About the Academy

We research and teach in the field of gerontology and geriatrics. Our goal is to generate new scientific knowledge and make it accessible for practical application through our teaching activities. In this way, we contribute to top-trained workers who care for people with chronic diseases and disabilities. We carry out interdisciplinary research work, the results of which lead to improvements in care and an increase in the quality of life of elderly people.

Research

Interdisciplinary and practice-oriented

In our research projects, we deal on the one hand with healthy and self-determined ageing and on the other hand with improving the health of carers. This also includes ensuring and optimising the health and care and social care system.

Teaching

Knowledge transfer at a high level

The aim of our teaching activities is to pass on knowledge in the field of gerontology and geriatrics to students, professionals and interested lay people. In doing so, we rely on close cooperation with universities and universities of applied sciences. The “Haus der Barmherzigkeit” is also a teaching hospital of the Medical University of Vienna. In addition to these cooperations, we also have our own event formats such as “Chronisch Konkret” and interdisciplinary training courses in our hospitals.
